What does sustainability mean in the context of Asia?

Many customers asked us at the beginning how it is possible to be sustainable and at the same time source products from Asia. Sustainability is, of course, an important topic and must also be presented to customers in a transparent manner. We also initially viewed the aspect of outsourcing outside Europe with caution, because of the long transport routes. Therefore, we have set ourselves the task of only certifying suppliers who put sustainability first in production and procurement.
On the other hand, we also offer storage of our customers' goods. The aim is that packaging does not have to be procured from Asia several times a year, but customers have the possibility to store bulk orders with us and access them at any time. Last but not least, we offer bags on a large scale, which often achieve a lower sum in terms of transport costs and emissions than solid packaging (glass/paper) procured in Europe.
Many companies in Europe are now on a mission to have their packaging products supplied only from nearby regions so that their supply chain is as sustainable as possible. However, even in these cases, this should be viewed with caution, as many of the subcontractors' preliminary products are almost always sourced from Asian regions, and by 2023 at the latest, when the supply chains will have to be disclosed, the so-called "sustainability" will no longer be able to be properly enforced.

How can you guarantee that the product meets my quality requirements?

Through close cooperation with our parent company Rieckermann, we have a unique network of packaging manufacturers. The network of our various manufacturers has a wide range of certificates and qualifications.

On the one hand, we have our own internal quality requirements and checks. Since we accompany the suppliers from the selection of the right machine to commissioning, including ongoing maintenance work and process and product optimisation, we know our packaging material manufacturers like no other. Years of partnerships between Rieckermann and their Asian customers underline the quality and uniqueness of our relationships.
Secondly, we have a local presence on site to ensure that standards are met. We have service technicians in the respective countries to ensure quality requirements.
In addition, our manufacturers carry out their own certification processes, which include international standards.
Our manufacturers are certified by the following standards, among others:

ISO: 9001:2015: A quality management system that pursues the goals of improving internal communication and promoting the understanding and control of processes.

Workplace Condition Assessment: Focuses on the assessment of workplace conditions. There is a strong emphasis on transparency, as well as restructuring workplace conditions to be in line with industry best practices.
‍
BRCGS; FSSC 22000; GMP: Quality and management systems that guarantee food safety in processing and in the associated processes. These certificates are primarily used by food packaging companies and manufacturers. FSSC 22000 is based on the internationally recognised ISO 22000, which most of our manufacturers also have.

What design options do I have with the product?

Packaging can always be seen as a marketing tool. It is therefore all the more important to use the full potential of the packaging. Individuality is therefore our top priority. When selecting the bags, there are different design aspects that you can create. On the one hand, there is the choice of bag type. You can also choose from different looks, which are usually accompanied by a dependent feel. The choice of closure is also up to you. However, we are happy to offer you our advice here so that you know exactly what your options are and so that you don't miss out on anything.
