In recent years, there have been many studies on trends in the pet food industry. In particular, the influence of packaging on the purchase of pet food has been documented. The growing number of pets in European households means that they are becoming more and more humanised. Accordingly, an increasing number of manufacturers are eliminating preservatives and GMO ingredients in order to improve the quality of pet food. At the same time, the rising awareness of health increases the demand for modern packaging solutions. Sustainability plays a major role here: the possibility of minimising food waste and recycling packaging is becoming increasingly important in general and precisely also for pet products.
In summary, shoppers are now focusing not only on the content of the product, but also on the packaging.
Therefore, packaging manufacturers are again focusing on the use of fully recyclable materials. For example, the mono-material "polyethylene" (PE), with which they support the cycle of the circular economy and focus on the reprocessing of packaging.
